Maximum ramping angle at ramping milling and diameters of helical milling are determined the insert shape and the cutter diameter.
The following figure shows the schematic view of how to determine the maximumramping angle.
This figure shows that the width and the height of the minor cutting edge are important for the ramping milling.
Cutter diameter changes the maximum ramping angle under the same insert shape.






Machining diameters at the helical milling are fallen into four categories.

1. Maximum diameter with protrusion:There is a protrusion on the bottom of the hole. It caused by the rounded corner.
2. Maximum diameter without protrusion:There is no protrusion.
3. Minimum diameter without protrusion:There is no protrusion.
4. Minimum diameter with protrusion:There is a protrusion on the bottom of the hole. It caused by the minor cutting edge.

These diameters are determined by widths of the corner radius, the flat cutting edge and the minor cutting edge.
